 The International Academy for Suicide Research (IASR, the controller) is registered as a Corporation in Canada, under the Canada Not-For-Profit registration. The Canada Corporation number is 447711-1, and the Business number is 857440697RC0001.

  1. Why are we processing your personal data?

Your personal data are being processed for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the IASR. These legitimate interests are listed in the Bylaws of the IASR (https://suicide-research.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/IASR_Constitution.pdf) and summarized briefly below:

The objectives of the Association are:

  • to promote high standards of research and scholarship in the field of suicidal behaviour.
  • to foster communication and cooperation among scholars

The Academy is a not-for-profit corporation organised under the laws of the Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act – 2015-01-13.

  1. What type of information is collected from you?

The personal information we collect includes your name, address, affiliation, e-mail, and phone number (if provided) as well as dates when last membership payment was made are stored in a password protected and secure section of our website.

  1. How is your information used?

 Personal data are used for continuous administrative purposes, such as:

  • Sending you the print version of the journal Archives of Suicide Research.
  • Sending you log-in information so that you may access the online version of the Archives of Suicide Research.
  • Updating information on which members are in good standing.
  • Sending you newsletters or information pertaining to the IASR.
  1. Where do we get the data from?

 We only store data that was either provided by the IASR members directly or recorded during payment of membership fees. We do NOT store data on credit cards, such as number of a credit card that was used for payment of membership fees.

 

  1. How long do we store your information?

 Data are stored as long as you are a member of the IASR. If you sign out of the organisation, all personal data will be deleted.

  1. How are your data shared?

Only the IASR Secretary-Treasurer and the IASR accountant have access to your data. Some data (email addresses and mailing addresses) are shared with the publisher Taylor and Francis, i.e. the publisher of Archives of Suicide Research, for the purpose of sending you this journal. Some data (email addresses and mailing addresses are also shared with our partner(s) in organizing conferences, in order to inform you about upcoming events.

  1. Your rights (to control, correct or delete your data)
  •  You have the right to access the data and rectify the data. You can ask us to erase or correct data that is no longer accurate or necessary. In fact, we encourage you to do so.
  • You can ask us to stop processing the data in certain ways (for example receiving information about certain events). This does not apply in cases where we are processing your data to fulfil our legal obligations.
  • You have a right to get a copy of your data.
  1. The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority 

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The IASR is subject to the Canada Business Corporations Act which is the supervisory authority in Canada where the IASR is registered as an organization.  Complaints can be filed in writing to Corporations Canada (http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/icgc.nsf/eng/h_07026.html).
